A little history

CBS Sunday Morning first aired this segment about denim in American culture back in May 2012, but they re-aired it this morning and I always enjoy seeing it. It not only features historical pieces, but also touches on the move in the 1990s by major denim brands to relocate their manufacturing out of the US in favor of cheaper foreign manufacturing. Now, 20+ years after the denim industry dwindled to nearly nothing in this country, it’s been coming back in a big way, both with high end designers and smaller mom and pop operations like Imogene and Willie and Roy Denim that pay homage to the craft and utility of one America’s most famous articles of clothing.
